Text Message Mental Health Support Now Available in Shropshire
Shropshire residents now have access to mental health support via text message thanks to a new partnership between Midlands Partnership Foundation NHS Trust (MPFT) and the Shout service. The initiative, launched today, offers a convenient and accessible way for individuals to seek help.
To access the service, residents simply need to text “STW” to 85258. Shout provides confidential support from trained volunteers, offering a vital lifeline for those experiencing emotional distress or mental health challenges. The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring help is available whenever it’s needed.
MPFT officials emphasized that this new text-based service is designed to complement, not replace, existing NHS mental health care options. It aims to provide an additional layer of support, particularly for those who may be hesitant to seek help through traditional channels or who require immediate assistance outside of regular office hours. The trust hopes the accessibility of texting will encourage more people to reach out and receive the support they need.
The Midlands Partnership Foundation NHS Trust is a leading provider of NHS healthcare services in the West Midlands, including mental health, community and acute services. Shout, the partner organization, is a UK-wide crisis text messaging service, operating since 2015, and has provided support to hundreds of thousands of individuals.
