Southwest Georgia Regional Library expands Chromebook access for community - technology news

The Southwest Georgia Regional Library System is providing Chromebooks to residents, reporting that demand for digital resources is growing by double digits each year.

At the Gilbert H. Gragg Library in Bainbridge, approximately 50 Chromebooks are available for checkout. The technology is being used by community members to assist with job searches and reintegration into the workforce.

Elex Conley, a Bainbridge resident who recently returned home after five years in prison, uses the library computers to pursue work in the solar industry.

"I recently just got out of prison. I'm trying to get back into society, so I use the library as a resource for, you know, helping me get on the computers," Conley said.

Conley noted that his previous experience in the solar industry involved on-the-job training, including learning to drive machinery and build solar panels.

Chromebooks are available for checkout at all Southwest Georgia Regional Library branches for up to two weeks. To access these devices, residents must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Hold an active library account
