Michelle Obama and Swin Cash named in early WNBA commissioner betting market - celebrities news

WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert has announced she will retire at the end of 2026. Early betting markets for her successor have included names such as Michelle Obama and Swin Cash.

Engelbert, 61, was appointed as the league's first commissioner in May 2019 following her role as CEO of Deloitte. During her seven-year tenure, she oversaw the league's expansion from 12 teams to 18 by 2030 and brokered an 11-year, $3.1 billion television deal.

While the league experienced financial and structural growth under her leadership, Engelbert also faced criticism regarding her leadership style. The WNBA will begin a search for a second commissioner following her departure on 31 December 2026.
