Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway will star in a sequel to the 1990 film "Days of Thunder," the actors announced Saturday in conjunction with Paramount Pictures.

The announcement was made via an Instagram Reel featuring the two actors standing in front of a yellow and green race car. The sequel is scheduled for release in the summer of 2028.

Cruise, 64, will reprise his role as NASCAR star Cole Trickle. Hathaway, 43, will portray an engineer and team owner. Jonathan Levine will direct the film, while Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Tommy Harper will serve as producers.

The original film, which starred Cruise alongside Nicole Kidman, grossed $157.9 million at the worldwide box office against a production budget of approximately $60 million.
