Marubeni Acquires UK's Jacobson Group, Gains Gola Footwear
Marubeni Consumer Platform US (MCPU), a unit of Japanese trading giant Marubeni, announced Wednesday the acquisition of Britain-based Jacobson Group. The Jacobson Group manages a portfolio of footwear brands, most notably including Gola, alongside Lotus, Ravel, and Frank Wright. The deal also incorporates licensed brands Dunlop and Lonsdale.
While specific financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, the move signals Marubeni’s continued expansion within the consumer goods sector. MCPU’s strategy focuses on building a robust platform of consumer brands, and the addition of Jacobson Group’s established portfolio aligns with that objective.
Jacobson Group has a long history in the UK footwear market, having built and managed the brands over several years. Gola, in particular, is recognized for its heritage and classic designs, appealing to a broad consumer base. The other brands within the portfolio – Lotus, Ravel, Frank Wright, Dunlop and Lonsdale – cater to diverse styles and market segments, providing a varied offering under the Jacobson Group umbrella.
The acquisition is expected to allow MCPU to leverage Marubeni’s global network and resources to further develop and expand the reach of these footwear brands internationally. Details regarding operational changes and integration plans are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
