NBR Split Likely Before Feb 12 Election, Says Adviser
Bangladesh's interim government anticipates finalizing the division of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) prior to the upcoming February 12 general election, according to Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed. The long-delayed split is nearing completion, with officials expressing optimism about its finalization.
Speaking today, Ahmed stated that there remains sufficient time to complete the process. "There is still time. It hasn't happened yet, but you will see whether it is completed by January or February 12," he commented. The NBR's bifurcation has been a subject of ongoing discussion and planning for some time, aiming to streamline operations and improve revenue collection efficiency.
The National Board of Revenue is the chief revenue collection agency of Bangladesh, responsible for collecting taxes and tariffs. The proposed split aims to create two separate entities, potentially enhancing specialization and accountability within the revenue administration. The timing of this development, occurring just before a general election, is likely to draw scrutiny and public interest.
