Country music icon, actor and philanthropist Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, her family announced on social media on Tuesday. Parton's team stated she died surrounded by loved ones following a brief battle with cancer.

Parton's career included selling over 100 million records. She was an 11-time Grammy winner with 52 nominations, an Emmy winner, a two-time Oscar nominee, and a six-time Golden Globe nominee.

Following the announcement, President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social that he was ordering the American flag to be lowered throughout the United States for a one-week period beginning at 6:00pm tonight to honour the singer.

The Empire State Building has announced that its tower lights will turn to a pink sparkle at 9:25pm to honour the late star.
