A former contestant on the reality television show “American Idol” has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife in their Ohio home. Joshua Saenz, 31, faces charges related to the shooting death of his wife, Sarah Saenz, according to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the couple's Liberty Township residence on Monday after receiving a call reporting a possible shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Sarah Saenz deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators allege that Saenz attempted to stage the crime scene, leading them to believe the death was a suicide or accidental.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office stated that evidence collected at the scene contradicted Saenz’s initial statements, prompting further investigation.
